Can I deduct my moving & storage expenses?

Are you employed or self-employed?

If you are employed or self-employed, you can deduct eligible moving expenses from employment or self-employment income you earn at the new location, including amounts received under the Wage Earner Protection Program in respect of employment at the new work location.

Full-time students

You can deduct moving expenses if you move to study courses as a student in full-time attendance, enrolled in a program at a post-secondary level, at a university, college or other educational institution. However, you can only deduct these expenses from the part of your scholarships, fellowships, bursaries, certain prizes, and research grants required being included in your income.

Expenses you can deduct

You can deduct reasonable amounts that you paid for moving yourself, your family, and your household effects. Not all members of your household have to travel together or at the same time.

Eligible moving expenses include:

What size of storage containers do you offer?

We offer two sizes of Cubeit containers; large (8'X8'X16)' and small (8'X8'X8').  The larger containers (16' long) is 128 square feet and is designed to fit in one car parking space.  The smaller container (8' long) is 64 square feet.  .

What are your containers made from?

Cubeit containers are made of a steel frame with specially designed, powder coated steel. The top is a translucent durable fiberglass material that allows light to pass through and illuminate the inside of the container. Plus, there is a light-weight steel roll up door.

Are Cubeit containers water-proof?

Cubeit containers are weather-resistant. Most of our containers stay outside all year and the construction of the containers has been taken into account.

How many Cubeit containers should I order?

Cubeit containers are designed to accommodate a typical household. Larger households will require multiple containers. In general, each 8x8x8 container may accommodate 1 room, and each 8x8x16 container may accommodate 3-4 rooms. As every household is different, the customer is responsible for assessing the container capacity for their belongings. Container sizes are approximate.

How are cubeit containers different from other moving and storage options?

We bring the cubeit moving container to you. You load and unload at your own pace. Then we deliver the cubeit container to a location of your choosing. If needed, we store your cubeit container in one of our secure storage centers.

How safe will my belongings be?

Only you have the key to your CUBEIT container.  CUBEIT Storage Centers feature sophisticated security systems. CUBEIT delivery trucks are equipped with a hydraulic system that minimizes the shift of contents while in transit. CUBEIT also offers a content protection program

I need more than one Cubeit container. Can you stagger the delivery times of additional containers?

Absolutely.  At Cubeit we are flexible with the delivery schedule and will work to ensure the pick-up days are convenient for loading and unloading, schedule permitting.

If I can't fill an entire container, what do I do?

Cubeit containers are designed to allow for partial household loads. There are eyehooks for tie downs every 4 feet and throughout the container that permit securing the load.

Will Cubeit load the container for me?

Cubeit can recommend companies for packing, loading, or unloading in each of our locations. Our flexible scheduling allows for adequate time to load the Cubeit container at your leisure. Visit our packing services page to more details.

How long do I have to load or unload the container?

Cubeit allows you to pack your Cubeit container at your leisure. There are no deadlines, time pressure, you move when you are ready.

How can I order a Cubeit container?

How fast can I get a CUBEIT container?

You can often get a Cubeit container the next day depending on availability. Our schedules can fill up quickly. We recommend that you order or schedule your container as soon as possible.

Do I have to be there when the Cubeit container is dropped-off or picked-up?

No, although we recommend that someone be present whenever possible. Our deliveries and pick-ups may occur at any time after 7:00 am local time. Our clients are responsible for ensuring that there is adequate clearance and accessibility for the desired location of the container.

How does Cubeit prevent my contents from being damaged during the move?

Our professional drivers are experts at transporting our Cubeit containers. The use of our low profile delivery trucks minimizes the possibility of shifting or damage. Cubeit offers a complete variety of packing services and supplies. CUBEIT also offers a comprehensive content protection program.

I don't know yet where I'm moving. How can Cubeit help me?

Cubeit provides services in most major markets in Ontario & Alberta. Moving longer distances may require the movement from one secure Storage Center facility to another. Cubeit is the ideal solution to pack and unpack your belongings only one time and store them in our secure warehouses when needed. Most movers pack and unpack your possessions several times when moving and storing them.

How long will it take for my container to be delivered to my new location?

Delivery time depends on a variety of factors, which include availability of delivery vehicles and the distance to the delivery location. Cubeit scheduling technology provides the flexibility to meet your moving needs.

Can I access my container while it is in storage?

Absolutely! Just give us a call during business hours. Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Our storage centres are locked at all times, so it is necessary for your to call ahead and provide advanced notice so we can have your cubeit container ready and waiting for you.

What will it cost?

Cubeit pricing is based upon delivery charges, transportation charges, and storage costs. Cubeit offers free quotations that are valid for 7 days. Once scheduled, the pricing and invoices are determined and posted to the account.

Are there any hidden charges?

The Cubeit pricing structure is quite simple and straightforward.  Cubeit quotes do not include fuel charge or applicable taxes.  At Cubeit we have worked very hard to keep the increasing cost of fuel from affecting our clients.  Unfortunately, the current fuel rates have forced us to temporarily add a fuel charge.   Rather than raising our base delivery price, we feel it is more appropriate to break out the costing so that our clients clearly understand the price structure.  

Packing supplies, locks, and content protection programs are available upon request.

How can I make a payment?

Cubeit accepts Visa and MasterCard. Certain locations may accept check, money order or cash for local moves. Cubeit's billing cycle begins on the day of initial delivery and continues on an every four weeks basis.

When is my storage rent due?

Cubeit storage rent is due on the day the container is delivered and continues on a every four week billing cycle thereafter until you are finished using the container. We accept VISA & MasterCard.

Can I put some of the charge on one credit card and the rest on another?

Do you accept cash as a form of payment?

Some locations will accept cash for Storage Center storage only.

What form of payment do you accept?

Cubeit accepts both Visa &  MasterCard.  Certain locations may accept check, money order or cash for local moves.

If I cancel the order do I get my money back?

We do not charge your card until the date before the initial delivery.  If it is necessary to cancel your order, please do so by calling CUBEIT by 4pm EST the day before you are scheduled or a cancellation fee may be charged. When cancelling your order you must call and speak to an agent.

What day is my storage rent due?

Cubeit storage rent is due on the day the container is delivered and continues from the same date on an every four week billing cycle thereafter until you are finished using the container.

How much clearance do I need to place the Cubeit container at my home/office?

In order to place a Cubeit container on your property we need a clearance of 10 feet in width and 15 feet in height with no steep inclines, low branches or wires.

Are there any restrictions for using Cubeit?

Cubeit containers are permitted at most locations. If Cubeit is aware of regulations in your area, you will be informed at the time you place your order.   If we do not have information for your area, a quick internet search on the city website should provide you the information you are looking for.

Will a Cubeit container damage my driveway?

Cubeit uses a delivery system designed to position the container safely on your driveway. For new driveways please check with your builder or developer before scheduling placement. We are unable to determine the integrity of any paved surface, so you should always check for existing cracks and request placement away from that area.

Can I fit multiple Cubeit containers in my driveway?

Yes, most driveways that allow for two vehicles to be placed side by side or end to end will accommodate two containers.

Do I have to be home when my Cubeit container is delivered?

Delivery can be made even if you are not available, just be sure you provide specific delivery instructions at the time you place your order. Our clients are responsible for ensuring that there is adequate clearance and accessibility for the desired location of the container.

How long can I keep the Cubeit container at my location?

Unless there is a specific regulation that defines the amount of time a container may be placed at your location, you may keep it for as long as you need.

Are my contents safe while onsite at my location?

While the Cubeit container is safe at your location, please make sure to keep the roll up door locked when you are not accessing the container.   It is also a good idea to inform your insurance provider that you are storing contents on your site within a portable storage unit.

Will the Cubeit container do any damage to my property?

We are able to successfully place containers in most locations without resulting in damage. Please note however, that if you elect for a non-paved surface placement, there is always the possibility of some yard damage, especially if the ground is wet, or the soil is loose. In all cases, we take the utmost care to deliver your container in a fashion that minimizes the possibility of any damage

Where can I put my Cubeit container?

We always recommend that the container be on a paved surface, but if not available, our professional drivers will work with you to determine other placement options.

Are my contents insured while in storage with Cubeit?

As with all storage, we recommend you notify your insurance broker and inform them that you are transferring contents off your property.  Supplemental contents insurance can be arranged if you are not covered under your current homeowners or renters policy.  Please ask for details.

Do you sell moving boxes & packing supplies?

Absolutely. And the best part is that they are delivered directly to you, inside your Cubeit container.

How do I load my Cubeit container?

While our staff is always cautious while transporting belongings, we recommend that you load the Cubeit container just as you would load a truck. Place heavier items on the floor and fill in the upper areas with lighter pieces. As with any move, protective materials (tie down straps, moving pads , etc.) should also be utilized.
